Optional Sessions for Continuing Professional Development

Make the most of your visit to the congress by enrolling for one or more of our pre-congress workshops or fringe events. Past years have seen a large and enthusiastic take-up of these activities with many attendees adding them to their itinerary. We hope you will want to do the same when you join us in Glasgow for EAWOP 2022.


Where and when?

The workshops and fringe events take place at the SEC on Tuesday 11th January 2022 between the hours of 10am and 5pm unless otherwise indicated in the workshop summary. All will finish in good time to allow participants to attend the opening ceremony and that evening’s networking and social events.


Making your selection

Use the summaries further down this page to decide which events are right for you. You can choose either a single full-day session, or one or two half-day sessions. And since you cannot be in two places at the same time, when selecting two half-day sessions please make sure that one is in the morning and the other in the afternoon.


How to book

These popular events can be included in your booking when you first register or added later – registration will open shortly. Do not wait too long though as many of the sessions have limited capacity and are likely to fill up fast. Once you have identified those events that you wish to attend, go to the Registration page to reserve your place. Use the name of the event and its code number to locate the sessions you want to book.

Whether you want to acquire a new technique, fine-tune an existing skill, improve your professional practice, explore real-world problems, or expand your understanding of a specialist topic, you should be able to find a workshop to suit your needs.

Each of the workshops has undergone a rigorous vetting process and will be facilitated by well-known subject-matter experts from around the world. The price is £30 for a half-day workshop and £60 for a full-day workshop. Attendance will be recognised by the award of a CPD certificate.

  • avoid common pitfalls while preparing a scientific paper for submission
  • gain insight into one’s own strength and weaknesses in the process

Academic psychologists, typically early-career researchers, who are keen to get their work published in academic journals and might in some cases be finding this challenging will find this session invaluable. A basic understanding of research methodology is desirable.

  • gain a basic understanding of the purpose and foundations of qualitative research
  • introduce some commonly used qualitative approaches
  • know when to use different methods to address various research questions 
  • understand important considerations when designing a qualitative research project

The workshop is targeted at novices in qualitative research methods, including academics and practitioners, as well as participants at all stages of their careers. No prior knowledge is required for participating in this workshop.

Mindfulness Interventions at Work: Science and Practice

The main learning objectives of this workshop are to:

  • familiarize participants with recent research evidence on the benefits of mindfulness in the context of work 
  • provide an overview of different mindfulness-based interventions, and their advantages and disadvantages
  • offer participants the opportunity to try out and experience some mindfulness practices
  • facilitate the sharing of best practice in mindfulness intervention studies 
  • exchange ideas about the successes and pitfalls of implementing mindfulness programs

Introduction to Multilevel Modelling

Testing for Mediation and Moderation using SPSS

  • understand mediated and moderated relationships and why we test them
  • learn how to test mediated relationships in SPSS using the PROCESS macro
  • learn how to use PROCESS to test, plot and probe moderated relationships

This workshop will suit those wanting to upgrade their basic knowledge of simple multiple regression analysis and SPSS software skills to test more advanced models involving mediated or moderated relationships. Preventing Bias in the Digital Age – Collaborative Workshop to Design Research on Biases and Stereotyping Interventions.

The main learning objectives of this workshop are to:

  • create and plan a new collaborative research project on a (digital) bias intervention with the goals of (1) carrying out the project after the workshop (2) presenting the findings in a follow-up meeting and (3) publishing the research in a peer-reviewed journal
  • extend participants’ networks by facilitating connections between researchers interested in stereotyping and bias interventions as well as digital workplace interventions 

The aim of this event is to bring together researchers focusing on biases and bias interventions and give them the opportunity to brainstorm and work on a new research project with fresh collaborators. The workshop primarily targets academics, although practitioners who would like to conduct research are also welcome.

Designing, Implementing and Evaluating Organisational Interventions to Foster Employee Health and Wellbeing

The main learning objectives of this workshop are to:

  • be aware of critical issues in developing and implementing organizational interventions
  • demonstrate the ability to work with intervention design and implementation tools
  • show awareness of the challenges in evaluating organizational interventions
  • demonstrate the ability to plan an evaluation strategy for how to evaluate a complex intervention combining qualitative and quantitative methods

This workshop is designed to support both practitioners and academics who are currently involved in ‘live’ intervention projects. The content will also be relevant to those who are faced with the challenges of evaluating complex interventions in ‘real world’ settings. There is no need for extensive knowledge of the key processes involved as an overview of these will be included in the workshop.

The main objectives of this event are to:

  • create a forum for engaging in dialogue on how to create societal impact as a PhD student 
  • develop a supportive multidisciplinary PhD community 
  • advance the skills needed to succeed as a PhD candidate, such as making a theoretical contribution, critical thinking and negotiation skills
  • learn how to communicate successfully with the general public to increase the impact of your research on society
  • foster a spirit of collaborative research across countries, institutions and disciplinary backgrounds

This event is primarily intended for PhD students and is organized by the pHResh network. It does not require any preparation and you have only to sign-up for it.

  • learn from data on the application of WOP gathered from around the world and by listening to experienced practitioners

  • strengthen your impact and credibility when working with the media and getting published
  • develop an action plan to future-proof your development by self-auditing your professional practice
  • form peer-to-peer learning support groups for giving and receiving coaching on live workplace issues and dilemmas

This workshop has been designed for people who have at least 5 years’ experience of applying WOP in organisational settings. It is open to both academics and practitioners who want to maximise the impact of their psychological knowledge in the real world.
